*The local now has a phone number, and will keep the answering machine updated with the latest information that you need. So, if you can't get to a computer to check this website, you can call (218) 879-3250 anytime.
*Are you looking for ways to improve your working conditions? Do you want to know more about what is going on around you at work? Why not sign up to be a steward or on a committee? This will provide you with a valuable experience and greater knowledge of the day-to-day workings of your union and the company that you work for. Talk to your officers today about how you can be more involved!
*Do not go into a meeting with anybody from the company unless you have a union rep with you. Remember, you have to ask for a union rep, the company is not responsible for getting one for you unless you ask. You wouldn't go to court without a lawyer, you wouldn't go in a confined space without a watcher, don't go into a meeting without a steward.
*If you have questions about the contract, or if you don't agree with something that is happening at work that is related to the contract or labor laws, see your steward. It is thier duty to have a fair understanding of these things, and to know where to refer questions that they cannot answer. If you have a grievance, the steward is the first step. Let them bring your grievances forward for you, this will help prevent misunderstandings and fights between you and management or between you and other members.
*If you must work through your half-hour break, then the company MUST pay you. It is the law, and it is in the labor agreement that you worked so hard and waited so long for. Your break is also NOT to be scheduled by the supervisor, you schedule it with the team. If your supervisor is scheduling your break, or if you are working through your break and not getting paid, please let your steward or officer know immediately.
*The new t-shirts are in, the cost is $11.00 for short-sleeved and $12.00 for long-sleeved.
*LifeWorks Employee Resource is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist with work, family, personal, and financial issues. They are completly confidential and at no cost. Please call them if you are feeling overwhelmed or just need someone to talk to. 1-800-577-4727 You can also call your officers for help, they are in the phone book, and their numbers are available in the mill.
